83’ – OH MY GOD! Everton attack through Ndiaye, he plays in KDH who crosses into the middle.. Barry is hauled down by Hall and between the pair the ball is bundled into the goal, Everton lead again, 3-2!!
82’ – The pressure pays off for the hosts. Joelinton beats Garner on the left, has time to pick his man and crosses to Murphy whose volley bounces, comes off Gueye and goes through Pickford, 2-2. Oh man, that was frustrating.

81’ – Second change for the Blues, and it’s Harrison Armstrong coming on for Dwight McNeil.
78’ – Gordon cuts in on his left and fires off a shot, comes off KDH. Fans baying for a penalty, not even close.
Barnes low shot, blocked by Tarky. Siege mentality here.
73’ – Ndiaye does well to steal the ball and hold it, finds McNeil who promptly gives it away. Ugh.
Everton’s first change of the game is Beto coming off, Thierno Barry on.
Newcastle with their last sub are throwing on striker Yoane Wissa for fullback Kieran Trippier.
70’ – Desperate defending as Newcastle have Everton hemmed in, Hall and Barnes combining well on their left.
68’ – Gordon jinks through the middle and Garner takes the ball and the man too, and he will be booked. Freekick to the Magpies, Tonali into the box and cleared. Cross into the box, Pickford wrongfooted but gets a hand to it, falls to Barnes who takes too long and then tries to chip it to the far post and lofts it well over. Whew.
65’ – Oh Beto! Trippier lets the ball go out the sideline and Beto nips in. Ball looked out, but play continues and Beto walks in on goal, beats Pope.. and clangs it off the top of the bar!! That would have surely been chalked off by VAR had he scored, the ball looked fully over the line.
60’ – Branthwaite cuts out a cross, gives away a corner. Into the box, not properly cleared, Gordon cuts back and fires off a shot, Pickford spills it and hacked away, whew!
Now Everton counter through Beto and KDH, the latter is hauled back by Willock and is booked.
58’ – Ndiaye duels with Tonali, finds Garner who tries to slip KDH in, but overhits the pass.
56’ – Two more changes for the hosts – Elanga and Woltemade off, Murphy and Barnes on.
Still no movement whatsoever from the Everton dugout, to no one’s surprise.
53’ – Dewsbury-Hall late to a ball to Tonali, and slides into his man, he will be booked. Slightly to the left of Pickford, about twenty five yards out. Trippier and Hall over it, it’s the former and he beats the wall, and the goalframe, never really a threat.
49’ – Beto tackled and goes down, wants a penalty but will get the corner anyway. Hall did get the ball first, but the Everton striker has looked hungry. VAR are reviewing this, no penalty, that was fair.
Corner from the right, and McNeil is over it. Pope punches away, and then Tonali hurls Garner to the floor outside the field of play in an attempt to get the ball back. Attwell speaks to the both of them, and the time has been wasted.
47’ – McNeil twists and turns and fires off a tame shot, Pope gathers.
46’ – Second half underway, no changes by either manager.
Jacob Ramsey looked like he was having a coughing fit, but started throwing up and is being withdrawn for Joe Willock.
Halftime Thoughts – Everton have played well, holding their defensive shape and attacking with intent away at Newcastle here. We’ll see what changes Howe makes and if Moyes can stay ahead of him.
45+2’ – Halftime whistle goes, Everton scored first, gave up the equalizer to Newcastle but then pounced on an error to jump back into the lead at the break. 2-1 the score, Branthwaite and Beto with the goals for the Blues.
45+1’ – Ndiaye gives away a foul and an opportunity for Tonali to pump the ball into the box, falls to Hall who skies his attempt.
44’ – Elanga kicks out at Myko and instead of a foul Attwell gives the hosts a corner. They change the taker with Elanga up now, poor again and headed away.
Two minutes to be added on here.
41’ – Another corner for the Magpies, on the Everton right this time. Low from Tonali and headed away. Another corner, cleared and Ndiaye and Gana combine to counter and get some breathing space.
37’ – Elanga drives down the left this time, his cross is hooked away by Tarky. Another cross from the right, and Branthwaite gives away a corner. Toon pushing but the Blues hold firm.
34’ – And just like that Everton lead again!! McNeil with a nifty ball control move makes space for himself, and he fires a shot goalwards. Pope saves well, but makes a hash of collecting the rebound and Beto reacts quickest for a tap-in!! 2-1 to the Blues.

33’ – Newcastle are growing into the game, and there’s their equalizer. Tonali’s great pass to Ramsey in the middle, he fires a shot that comes off a sliding Branthwaite’s knee, and loops over Pickford, 1-1 now.

30’ – Myko blocks Elanga, corner on the Everton left. Taken short, eventually into the box, Elanga heads towards the six yard box and Joelinton gets his head to it, saved easily by Pickford.
26’ – Everton intercept Gordon again and the Blues set off on a counter, Beto to Ndiaye and once again the Senegal international’s square ball is poor, Gordon does well to recover and put the ball out.
24’ – More howls of derision as Ramsey with another foul. Pickford boots the ball long into the Newcastle half.
22’ – Ramsey catches Gana with a poor tackle, the hosts do look rattled here.
Magpies attack and a poor cross from Gordon is cleared by McNeil. We know that all too well.
19’ – Tarky clearance to Beto, and Everton progress up the left through Ndiaye, corner.
Garner inswinger, GOAL!! Branthwaite beats Tonali and his glancing header goes in off the far post! Everton lead 1-0, and it’s just reward for their control of the game so far!!

15’ – Ndiaye with a brilliant run from his own half, shrugging off the close attentions of Tonali for about forty yards, but then he tries to play KDH in and completely muffs his pass. Ooof.
13’ – Woltemade and Gordon set up Joelinton on the Everton right, and now he sails his shot over. Must be the air today here at St. James Park.
11’ – Thiaw with a bizarre turnover straight to Beto, ball comes to Gana and he goes back before the ball ends up with Ndiaye on the left. Rolls the ball to McNeil for a central, first time shot and he gets right under it and balloons it up into space.
9’ – Ndiaye comes in centrally and lets fly from over twenty yards out, ball sails over but you can see what he was trying.
7’ – Beto rushes Pope into a clearance and clatters into the goalie on his follow-through. Ref Stuart Attwell happy with that.
4’ – McNeil nicks the ball off Joelinton, who then returns the favour. Beto’s first touches have not been his lead-footed regular so far, impressive.
2’ – Loud chorus of boos for Pickford’s first touch. Newcastle just love former Sunderland players, lol.
1’ – Kick off at St. James’ Park, Garner gets us started.
McNeil is on the right, Ndiaye on the left. Toffees win a pair of throws deep on the right, both of O’Brien’s long throws are cleared.
Starting Lineups
Everton – Moyes does ring the changes. O’Brien and Mykolenko are back at fullback, Branthwaite returns to centre half. McNeil starts on the wing, and Beto will start up top.

Match Preview
Everton travel to the northeast to take on Newcastle, and the Blues get to play away from Hill Dickinson Stadium where they’ve looked a much more compact and better side.
Monday night’s defeat against Manchester United at home was particularly galling because the Blues were actually pretty good, but just didn’t create enough proper chances to get the game won.
Hosts Newcastle are going through a rough phase, with four defeats in their last five games and actually sit two spots and one point behind the Blues in the league table.
Carlos Alcaraz is the only other player out aside from Jack Grealish who underwent surgery and will miss the rest of the season. For the Magpies, Emil Krafth, Bruno Guimaraes, Fabian Schar, Tino Livramento and Lewis Miley are all out, with Jacob Ramsey facing a late fitness test for a hamstring ailment.

Last Meeting
The Magpies had preyed on the Blues’ home woes to win 4-1 in the first leg of this tie late in November. The Toffees last visit to St. James’ Park was a 1-0 win on the last day of the previous season, Charly Alcaraz’ winner looked like it had knocked the stunned hosts out of the Champions League before Aston Villa lost the plot elsewhere.
