Joe Burrow has to be watching this unfold and only think, “How the hell am I going to survive this?”
Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow (9) looks on from the sideline after leaving the game in the fourth quarter of the NFL Week 17 game between the Cincinnati Bengals and the Arizona Cardinals at Paycor Stadium in Downtown Cincinnati on Sunday, Dec. 28, 2025. The Bengals won 37-14.
Not only do the Bengals lack an adequate pass rush, but they also lack adequate offensive line protection. That’s bad news for Burrow.
Not only will Burrow have to avoid the NFL’s best pass rush six times a year, but he might be playing from behind often. The Bengals’ defense isn’t going to magically improve.

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow (9) signals to the sideline before a play on third and short in the second quarter of the NFL Week 18 game between the Cincinnati Bengals and the Cleveland Browns at Paycor Stadium in Downtown Cincinnati on Sunday, Jan. 4, 2026.If Burrow wants to reach the Super Bowl again, or even just survive his NFL career, he needs to consider a trade request.
I get it. He will be leaving two elite weapons. However, he has missed significant time due to injury. Burrow needs to stay healthy.
If things go poorly in pass protection this season, could requesting a trade next year be too late? He needs to consider the long-term picture—and quickly.
If not, then the risks simply will outweigh any type of reward for Burrow on the Bengals. He’s already questioned things before—it’s time to dive deeper and make the right decision.
