Return of the Mack: Chargers retain star edge rusher
· Yahoo Sports
The Chargers re-signed edge rusher Khalil Mack to a one-year, $18 million deal Saturday, four days before the NFL free agency window opens.
He will now return for his 13th NFL season. All offseason long, one of the biggest questions surrounding the Chargers was whether the veteran would return to LA.

Now, it's official. Mack will be donning powder blue for a fifth season with the Chargers.
Earlier this week, it was confirmed the edge would continue his playing career in 2026 with a report stating he would be "exploring all options in free agency."
Throughout the offseason, general manager Joe Hortiz made it clear the organization wanted to bring back both Mack and Odafe Oweh, two big-name free agents this spring.
"They know we want them back," general manager Joe Hortiz said of Mack and Odafe Oweh. "I think when players go into free agency once the season ends, it takes a little bit of time but we'll keep chipping away at it and see if we can get something done with them."
The Chargers have now secured Mack for another year, giving the defense a sound veteran presence in 2026.
The nine-time Pro Bowler is coming off a season where he recorded 5.5 sacks, 19 solo tackles, six tackles for loss, four forced fumbles, and 11 quarterback hits. He brought his career sack total up to 113 and is evidently still a productive player.
While Mack has quite the illustrious resume, he doesn't have a playoff win. He will look to earn his first victory in the postseason with the Chargers in 2026.
