The Big Ten Tournament's second day brought more parity and chaos. The beginning of the nightcap saw the Northwestern Wildcats eliminate the Indiana Hoosiers to advance to the Thursday slate with a 74-61 win.
The Hoosiers (18-14) were in a must-win situation as they were trying to stake their case to make the NCAA Tournament as one of the last four teams in the field. While they still could, their fate is now in the committee's hands. For the Wildcats (15-18), they will have to do the improbable of winning out through Sunday's title game.
Hoosiers coach Darian DeVries did his best to keep his emotions together, sitting beside his son, Tucker DeVries, as both shared what the loss at the United Center in Chicago truly means for the program moving forward.
"Like I told them, there's no going back," Darian DeVries said when asked about the loss. "Every season you've got a certain amount of games you'd like to have back. Certainly we felt like there's a little more in there for us that we would have liked to have gotten done. These guys continue to stick together even during a couple of these losing streaks and stuff and continue to maintain positive and work and do things the right way. I'm certainly appreciative of that group and especially that group of seniors."

Darian DeVries said he could see the committee valuing the level of competition the Hoosiers have played all season, rather than just the losing skids.
But that remains to be seen.
"I think the biggest thing we've talked about, when you're a bubble team, we've had a lot of Quad 1 games," Darian DeVries said. "I think the biggest thing for us is a lot of those Quad 1 games were against the top 10, 12 teams in the country. I think we had seven or eight of those losses were Quad 1 were against the top 12 teams in the country."
There are still several unanswered questions regarding Indiana, but for the Wildcats, they draw the Purdue Boilermakers (23-8) with a trip to Friday's quarterfinal round on the line.

“There’s a lot of young guys out there competing, and I’m just really proud of this group,” Northwestern coach Chris Collins said. “[We’re] excited about the opportunity to keep playing. That was our whole goal. We just want to keep playing, and I thought our defense really stood the test in the second half against a team that’s difficult to defend.”
We'll see how day three plays out.
