Notre Dame running back Aneyas Williams will be limited this spring

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are predicted to have a massive season in 2026 and are one of the favorites to win a national championship. Notre Dame’s roster is stacked, but they do have to replace a generational backfield in running backs Jadarian Price and Jeremiyah Love. The key player to take that leap to RB1 has been Aneyas Williams.

Of course, it’s going to take more than Aneyas Williams to replace Price and Love — and Marcus Freeman said as much on a show with Greg McElroy.
“You’re not going to replace Jeremiyah Love and Jadarian Price with one guy, right?” Freeman said. “You can’t do that. You might not ever find another duo like that, but how do we replace the production? A couple of those guys are injured, right?
“Aneyas will be limited in the spring.”
Oh… Williams is limited.
With the possibility that Kedron Young may not be ready as well, Notre Dame is looking at redshirt freshman Nolan James and early enrollee freshmen Javian Osborne and Jonaz Walton. Given the high recruiting rankings of both Osborne and Walton, there will be plenty of excitement this spring to see who rises in the depth chart to set up a fall camp development.
You don’t want any player sitting out due to injury, but I think the Irish know what they have in Aneyas Williams, and they like him a lot as he has been incredibly productive over the last two seasons when given the opportunity. This situation does, however, give Mike Denbrock a better look at what they can get out of the younger players this year — as the Irish WILL need them.
