Auburn’s postseason journey ends at the hands of a talented and tall Benet Academy team

DEKALB, Ill. (WTVO/WQRF) — The Auburn Knights took down two very talented team last week at the Hononegah 4A Sectional in Gurnee Warren and Guilford, but the Knights couldn’t do the same Monday night against Benet Academy of Lisle at the 4A NIU Super-Sectional.
The Knights lost to the 35-1 Redwings 69-42. Auburn trailed by only two points after the first quarter when they made 4-of-8 three-point baskets, but the Knights couldn’t maintain that pace, and they couldn’t handle Benet’s size.
Benet, with 7’1 Colin Stack and 6’8 Edvardas Stasys outrebounded Auburn 27-17. Benet outscored the Knights in the paint 56-16. Many of those points came on dunks. Benet shot 67.4% from the field.
Auburn shot only 34.1% from the field. After making those four three-pointers in the first quarter, the Knights made only 1-12 three-point attempts the rest of the game. The Knights also couldn’t get the fast-tempo attack going that they wanted, in large part because they couldn’t stop Benet from scoring inside, and they couldn’t get enough rebounds to start fastbreaks.
Auburn didn’t score a single fastbreak point.
Amir Danforth, in his final game as an Auburn Knight, scored 20 pints. Mikwan Marshall scored 10 points in his final game for Auburn. Kaiden Dozie scored seven.
Auburn finishes the season with a record of 35-1. The big question now is, was this also Bryan Ott’s final game coaching at Auburn?
