Grading the Bears signing DT Neville Gallimore
· Yahoo Sports
On Monday, the NFL's free agency negotiating window opened and the Chicago Bears wasted little time in finding depth for their defensive line. The Bears agreed to a two-year deal with former Indianapolis Colts defensive tackle Neville Gallimore worth up to $12 million.
Gallimore was a third-round pick of the Dallas Cowboys in 2020 and has bounced around since coming into the league. After four years with the Cowboys, Gallimore spent a season with the Los Angeles Rams before joining the Indianapolis Colts in 2025. That's where Gallimore enjoyed his best season as a pro. In 17 games, Gallimore totaled 38 tackles (four for a loss), 3.5 sacks, and three pass breakups.

With Gallimore in the fold, the Bears have another defensive tackle to work with behind Grady Jarrett and Gervon Dexter. Here is our initial grade of the expected signing:

- Two years, $12 million ($5 million guaranteed)
Initial grade: C+
There's something about general manager Ryan Poles and signing former Colts defensive linemen. First it was Al-Quadin Muhammad in 2022, Jacob Martin in 2024, Dayo Odeyingbo in 2025, and now Gallimore in 2026. Let's hope this one works better than the first three. Gallimore turned a breakout season into a modest payday, and the hope is the former third-round pick can build off that momentum going into 2026.
With just $5 million guaranteed, Gallimore isn't being asked to be the savior on the defensive line. At best, he's a rotational piece to spell Dexter and Jarrett. But the Bears need to beef up their run support with the (likely) departure of Andrew Billings. That isn't Gallimore's strength, and it feels like the Bears got more of the same as their current defensive tackles.
Gallimore has a quick first step off the ball and could flash from time to time in the middle of the defense. He also can line up at multiple spots if need be. His best attribute, however, is his motor. Gallimore doesn't quit on plays and should work his way into some tackles and sacks simply by not quitting until the whistle blows. Shemar Turner has a similar mentality, and those two together on the field at the same time could make some big plays together.
Ultimately, the Bears needed depth on the defensive line and got it with Gallimore. We'll see how the rest of the offseason shakes out and what they decide to do at the position. If Gallimore is their DT3, they're in trouble. If they have more options when the dust settles after the draft, then he'll be worth the compensation.
