The New York Yankees have questions about outfielder Spencer Jones, who remains one of the top prospects in baseball despite his age. However, despite a strong showing, the Yankees recently decided to option Jones as they finalized their roster decisions ahead of the start of the season.

After the move, manager Aaron Boone made it clear that the decision shouldn’t be viewed as a setback for the youngster. The big outfielder has drawn comparisons to Aaron Judge because of his physical tools and left-handed power, but he has issues striking out.
While Jones impressed at times this spring, the Yankees ultimately decided he’d benefit from being in the minors before receiving a full opportunity in the majors.
“Don’t focus on things that right now might be out of your control a little bit,” Boone said, per Brendan Kuty of The Athletic.
Boone also praised the continued improvement and the work he’s put in since last season.
“Reality is, he’s coming off a really strong season,” Boone added. “He continues to make really solid adjustments. He came in here this spring and has represented really well and has performed. You’ve seen the signs of him continuing to get better.”
For the Yankees, this is a tough one to swallow as Jones eventually needs to play.
