The Jayson Tatum-led Boston Celtics made a small, yet interesting roster move last Wednesday.

The 2024 NBA champions are giving a former Golden State Warriors G-League star another opportunity to showcase his skills in Boston via a second 10-day contract.

“The Boston Celtics have signed center Charles Bassey to a second 10-day contract,” The Boston Globe’s Adam Himmelsbach reported last Wednesday.

Bassey, a 25-year-old former second-round pick, is an intriguing frontcourt asset.

Despite having a non-existent perimeter game in a league that welcomes stretch fours and fives, Bassey can be effective as a physical, back-to-the-basket big man who uses his strength to overpower his opponents.

The Western Kentucky product began his career with the Philadelphia 76ers in 2021, averaging 3.0 points and 2.7 rebounds per game in 23 outings. Bassey spent the next three seasons with the San Antonio Spurs before starting the 2025-26 campaign with the 76ers and eventually joining the Celtics.

Bassey has been used sparingly with the Celtics in three games this season, contributing only 1.7 points and 1.0 rebounds per game. Still, it must be encouraging for Bassey that Boston isn’t ending his tenure with the franchise after his initial 10-day contract.

With only a few days remaining on his second 10-day deal, Bassey has limited time to prove he’s worthy of another contract with the title-contending Eastern Conference franchise.
