St. Louis Cardinals' Gold Glover Involved in Single-Car Crash After Win

· Yahoo Sports

On Wednesday afternoon, the St. Louis Cardinals walked-off the New York Mets 2-1 at Busch Stadium.

The hero of that game was shortstop Masyn Winn, who won the game with a single in the bottom of the 11th inning. It was the first career walk-off RBI for the infielder.

After the game, things took a scary turn as Winn was reportedly involved in a single-car accident.

Per Tamar Sher of KMOV on social media:

Here's the #stlcards statement:

Following today’s game, Masyn Winn was involved in a single-car accident on Int 64/Hwy 40 due to wet pavement.

Masyn, who was alone in the vehicle, was attended to by local police and Cardinals security and medical staff. He was examined at a nearby hospital and suffered no serious injuries.

We are grateful that he is OK, and thank the first responders in our community who helped Masyn tonight.

The Cardinals, who are out to a 4-2 start, are off on Thursday before opening up a new series on Friday against the Detroit Tigers. It's unclear if Winn will be able to play in that contest, but right now, all that really matters is his health.

About Winn

A 24-year-old who was drafted in the second round of the 2020 MLB Draft, Winn is a defensive wizard who won the Gold Glove Award in 2024. He's out to a slow start offensively, hitting just .160 through six games. He has no homers, one RBI and one stolen base. He's posted a .222 on-base percentage.

Lifetime, he's a .250 hitter over parts of four seasons. He hit a career-high 15 homers in 2024.

While the Cardinals don't figure to remain competitive this season, Winn is a foundational building block for the organization. He will pair with JJ Wetherholt in the infield for years to come. Wetherholt is one of the top prospects in baseball and made the team out of spring training.

Friday's game will represent the home opener for the Tigers and will be played at 12:10 p.m. CT. Michael McGreevy is scheduled to take the ball for the Cardinals while left-hander Framber Valdez pitches for Detroit.

McGreevy has an ERA of 0.00 while Valdez has one of 1.50. He was signed by Detroit this offseason after a lengthy career with the Houston Astros.

The Tigers are out to a 2-4 start. They advanced to the American League Division Series last season.
