Utica's Ritzer, Newark's Gilbert readers' picks for favorite players

The Advocate readers have spoken, and they recently by an overwhelming margin chose their favorite Licking County girls and boys basketball players to watch this past season.

Utica junior Emily Ritzer received nearly half of the girls vote at 47%. Ritzer was named to the All-Ohio Division V honorable mention list after averaging 12 points and 10 rebounds, leading Utica to an 18-5 finish, its best mark since the 2016-17 season.
Newark senior Ty Gilbert received two-thirds of the boys vote at 66%. Gilbert was named to the All-Ohio Division I honorable mention list after averaging 16 points per game in large part due to shooting 47% from 3-point range while helping the Wildcats reach their first regional final since 2008.
The Advocate staff will be unveiling their All-Advocate teams, including their picks for the top players, later this week.
